I have just next to zero fashion sense. I hate having to even think of it. During my day job, I teach in the fitness field at a community college. That leaves me with a requirement to look ‘nice’, but also dressed to exercise. When I exercise, I just put on nasty shorts and a t-shirt, but I just can’t do that for work. So I have to figure out how to coordinate outfits of shorts and t-shirts (often polos) that both look nice and are reasonable for exercise. I can’t stand that part of my job. Luckily it’s not a big part of it.
I do, however enjoy dressing for going to the farmer’s market. I keep thinking about it and I just couldn’t buy tomatoes from a guy in a suit. The suit represents business and everything that sustainable farming is not. As I get dressed for market I think that I need to make sure not to dress up because who wants to buy produce from some preppy kid in khakis?
On the other hand, I can’t wear what I wear in the field because nobody wants to buy anything from a guy with manure smeared on his pants and layers of mud on his shirt.
For farmer’s market I get to wear stained, but clean jeans and several layers of bulky shirts and sweatshirts that make me look that I spend time growing food in the dirt, but I also know how to use a washing machine. The secret to farmer’s market is to look just a little funky.
I believe that this is my first ever fashion post. Probably because nobody has ever asked me for fashion advice… Ever. I bet there is even a reason nobody asks me for fashion advice. Anyway, if you ever need fashion advice, please don’t hesitate to ask.
