It was a crazy experience, I tilled the garden. After spending months prepping and nurturing and planting and weeding, I took the tiller and wiped out all of the work I had done this year.
Sure, most of the beds had overgrown with weeds after the crops had bolted (or before the plants had bolted), but I still felt guilty that I took the tiller through the fields. At the same time, it was quite exciting. The garden this year was mediocre. I had the chance to till in a row of squash that was stunted by a frost early in the season. That row never produced a single squash and it felt good to be done with it and ready to start anew next spring.
Some rows had far more success than that, but we also have a lot of room for improvement. It is not exactly like starting over, I’m excited to build on the progress we made this year. Already the soil looks a lot better and I’m optimistic that we can take a step toward having better control over the weeds.
Today the rain started so I will be spending a lot more time inside planning. Or when I’m outside I’ll be getting wet. We still have some major projects that need to be completed, but I really feel like we have a pretty good handle on things.
And I might have more time to post as well
